We have fat quarters! Some of them sit happily near the bolt of fabric they came from. Some of them, sadly, no longer have a matching bolt of fabric to sit near. To help these “orphans” find good homes, we’re reducing their prices:
Fat Quarter Frenzy!!!
From February 1 – 14, all specially marked fat quarters will be $1.50 each. We have many, many fat quarters that may be just the thing to fill that gap in your stash. Stop by and adopt one of our “orphans” – the world will be a happier, more colorful place!

If you’ve ever been tempted to try your hand at making a quilt for the famous Hoffman Challenge, stop by The Joyful Quilter and take a look at this year’s stunning challenge fabric and its coordinates, and you may have difficulty resisting the temptation:
 Hoffman Challenge fabric and coordinates
The fabric is printed is lush greens, teals and blues and gilded with gold. The symetrical design lends itself to strong geometric designs, but would also be lovely in soft-edge applique. The richness of the colors make this a very appealing fabric.
If you’re not familiar with this world-wide challenge, go to the Hoffman Challenge web site for information and a look at some of the past winners. There are categories in quilts, wearable art, and art dolls, with cash prizes in each category. But nearly as exciting as getting a cash prize is to have your work selected to be in the Hoffman Challenge traveling exhibit throughout the following year, to be seen at quilt shows all over the country. We encourage you to give it a try!

Most of you know about the services offered at The Joyful Quilter, but for those who are new to our store, we’ll be periodically posting some of them so that everyone knows.
From the beginning, we at The Joyful Quilter have made it a goal to create a “greener” store. We installed special energy-efficient track lighting, and we recycle all of our cardboard and bottles (and trust us, there’s a lot of cardboard!) But we also have a policy that’s of direct benefit to our customers: if you take home your purchases in your own reusable tote instead of using our plastic shopping bags, we’ll give you $1 off your purchase! Just let us know that you have your own bag to use when you come to check out.
We’re also pleased to work in cooperation with Gloversville Sewing Center to help keep your machines humming. The good folks from Gloversville pick up machines for maintenance and repair each Thursday, then return the machines the following Thursday. This can save you a lot of driving and time, so when your machine is ready for maintenance, keep The Joyful Quilter in mind! Allow us to recommend that you plan to leave your machine with us when you’re about to go out of town – it’s like sending your machine to a spa, and you won’t miss it while it’s away!

You loved “Caribbean Sunrise!” You loved it so much that we’ve run out, so we’re offering 2 more choices. Those who asked for “Caribbean Sunrise” but couldn’t have it will be able to choose whichever other colorway they like. Everyone else should give us a first choice and a second choice. We know you’ll have a great time at the Mystery class no matter which color you work with!

Dear friends and fellow quilters,
For some time I have been trying to figure out how The Joyful Quilter could offer you even more quilting experiences; more classes, longer store hours, more clubs, BOMs and of course, more fun! I quickly realized that if all my plans were to come true, Linda, Debbie and I would need extra help. What I found was so much more!
Starting on January 11, The Joyful Quilter will merge with Woodstock Quilt Supply. Bob Silverman and Jim Helms, Woodstock’s current owners, will become partners in The Joyful Quilter. Jim and Bob bring an incredible amount of energy and talent to their new positions within the organization. They are best known for their quilt camps and classes, patterns and unique kits, as well as their beautiful booth when vending at quilt shows. All this will continue, as well as a new and exciting web store.
We are all excited about the possibilities that this merger will bring for us as individuals, for our business, and especially for our customers. Please stop by The Joyful Quilter soon, located on 19 Glenridge Road, Glenville, NY to welcome Bob and Jim and check out what’s new in the store. Linda, Debbie and I will be there too to answer questions you may have.
Come join the celebration! 2010 is going to be awesome!
Thank you,
Susan Pettengill
